Based in between Spalding and Boston in rural Lincolnshire Mill Rescue was opened in 2005 by Maggie Coveney, initially based in Maggie's home - the old Mill, primarily to re-home and rehabilitate Bearded Collies and Bearded Collie crosses. In September of 2005 we bought a smallholding with a view to developing a large purpose built rescue centre with all the facilities on site. Towards the end of 2005 we opened our doors to all breeds in need of help. The majority of our dogs come from Irish pounds and rescues with whom we have a close working relationship. We have now moved everything to the farm and hope that the main rescue centre will be completed in 2009. Mill Rescue is run by volunteers who give up their time to look after and spend time with the dogs. We also have fosterers who kindly take some of the dogs into their homes as some dogs get too stressed to stay in kennels, or to enable us to rescue more dogs when we haven’t got sufficient space in the kennels to take in more. |

My involvement with rescue started back in 2002 when I started looking for a dog, I knew exactly what I wanted but to be honest I never realised it was a breed - just a hairy unkempt looking creature. Then I found it, my dream dog was "A Beardie" from then I started looking for one to come and share my life. I didn't have to wait too long, along came Ted. I can remember when I started taking Ted to training one of the ladies who ran the classes had Beardies, she warned me that they are very addictive and that no one ever has "just one" I went on then to train as a groomer, yet another way Ted's arrival changed my life. The biggest move was then moving across country to the middle of nowhere so that we could have land. |
